Dream Dust Collector
2024
46’’ × 25’’ × 26’’
Aluminum, scrap wood, pig weights, screws
A love note to all of the lofty “shop” projects made by professional hacks with nearly unlimited material and tool resources. There is nothing quite like seeing someone’s half cooked plan not come together, and the hope leave them. Being employed in an extremely niche sector of the fabrication world has caused me to obsess over the hierarchy of manual labor positions, union vs non-union humor, and industry standards.
Housing
2022
4.5’’ × 5’’ × 3’’
Mild steel, scrap wood, portable cassette player, cassette
A structure designed to be placed in a gallery setting, subtly labeled to suggested viewer interaction. Whenever installed, it creates a nearly impossible commitment of the artist continuously returning to the space to rewind the tape. It is an exploration in how much room sound can occupy, uncomfortable encounters, and futile obligations.
Reels and “Practice”, Interruption
2022
44’’ × 102’’ × 66’’
Mild steel, scrap wood, nails, bedsheet, projector, extension cord, video
An armature obscures the viewing of a video, in which cropped Instagram reels and in-progress painting pictures sequenced together. My photos bear the same frantic digital sheen as the appropriated imagery. After spending any amount of time with social media content, I am put in a mode of pure consumption. I do not know if this can, or should, be separated from my practice.
Blotter
2021- Present
9’’ x 11’’ x 7’’
Matte acrylic, gesso, ballpoint pen ink, instant coffee, acrylic medium, loose leaf, mild steel
Part of an exploration into automatic sculpture. The paper is to be used for blotting painted sketchbook pages, and may never have an intentional mark made onto it.
Hunch With Calf in Sight
2022
29’’ x 14’’ x 30’’
Plywood, construction paper, ballpoint pen, oil, oil pastel, acrylic medium, baby oil, white house paint, shoelace, staples
Shifting one’s perspective and posture, and putting the body close to other works of art is required to view the imagery in this piece.
